Intelligence and Security Committee

Help

The Intelligence and Security Committee heard evidence from Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond as part of their privacy and security inquiry, on 23 October 2014.

The Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) examines the expenditure, administration and policy of the three Intelligence Agencies; MI6, MI5, and Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

The committee reports directly to the prime minister rather than to Parliament.

Intelligence agencies can, under certain circumstances, withhold some "sensitive" information from the committee.

The privacy and security evidence sessions aim to look at the extent to which it may be appropriate to intrude into an individual's privacy in order to protect the rights and safety of others.
