Microsoft's Chinese division has officially confirmed that Windows 9 is coming soon.
The company took to social network Weibo to tease the launch of the next-generation operating system, dropping a strong hint that the Start Menu of old will be restored, The Verge reports.
A post from Microsoft China, which has since been removed, read: "Microsoft's latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a comeback?"
Windows 9 is expected to include improved support for keyboard and mouse users and the integration of Cortana, Microsoft's voice-activated personal assistant.
The Charms bar of Windows 8 is believed to have been dropped and Windows Store apps will apparently run on desktop.
Microsoft has also been tipped to announce a unified version of Windows RT and Windows Phone, which is likely to be closely integrated with Windows 9.
In the works under the codename of 'Threshold', Windows 9 is expected to be announced and distributed to developers on September 30.
