Visited on July 19th. I consider myself a small time historian and I was ignorant of this event. What a great educational opportunity. The staff was wonderful and answered all my questions. … Full review by bogie0006

A gold mine for history nerds. A battle that took place before the Revolutionary War actually started (1771). The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The place is well maintained and clean. T… Full review by James H

I am thinking of taking my family here in May, I have 4 kids ages 6-11, that do not need screens in order to behave in public. Would this be a good stop for them? How much time should I plan to stop here? Is there a lunch/picnic area?

This is a fine place to have a picnic. You need to bring your food with you because there is none for sale on site. There is a re-enactment of sorts on May19- 20. This would be a perfect time to visit. However if you’re not visiting during that special event inMay whether or not your children would like it or not depends on how much they know and like history. In order to appreciate what this battleground is about you have to understand the context. Without a good bit of background information and an understanding of the goings-on in colonial North Carolina in the years just before the revolution, this site might hold little meaning for any visitor regardless of age. The movie shown on site does a pretty good job of providing context, But still if they go to this site with no understanding of what it is or why it might be important, your children may lose interest. One way to check on how well your children will enjoy this site is to go on Amazon prime and look at the movie called “The Regulators.” The movie is well done and gives good context for Alamance battleground. If your kids like that movie and want to learn more about it then this historic site will be the BEST place for a picnic. If they are not intrigued by that film then they will probably be bored and you will have wasted an opportunity to have lunch in Hillsborough, just up the road a piece.
