Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to release the Lumia 940 XL. The new device has a smaller sibling dubbed the Microsoft Lumia 940. As expected, these two flagship devices will run on Windows 10. The Lumia 940 XL recently made a visit to the benchmark testing site, revealing key configurations.

Based on the benchmark report shared by WinFuture, the Microsoft Lumia 940 XL will be tied to model number RM-1100. The handset will come with a 5.7-inch display, aided by a 2,560 x 1,440-pixel QHD screen resolution. The device is believed to sport a minimum of 17-megapixel sensor. However, being a flagship device, GSM Arena says the camera unit could house a 20-megapixel lens. There will also be a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.

The Lumia 940 XL will reportedly come equipped with 16 GB of internal storage capacity. The handset will host 1.5 GB of RAM to complement its configurations. However, benchmark testing sites usually undervalue the configurations, meaning the device could very well house a 2 GB unit, says GSM Arena.

The 940 XL will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC along with an octa-core processor. This smartphone is believed to be backed with a 3,300 mAh battery unit. Rumors suggest the handset will feature a USB Type-C connector and an iris scanner for authentication.

These Lumia devices will reportedly be the first Windows handset to come pre-installed with the Windows 10 OS. The 940 XL release date has not been made official, though the handset is expected to be unveiled in the coming months. Microsoft has not confirmed the Lumia 940 XL specifications thus far.
