Was Minto-Brown Island Park at one time known as Paradise Island with a big pool and family picnic sites, etc. this would have been late 1950s?

We didn't read the kiosk about its history but it would make sense given your description of it as in island with lots of picnic tables. I didn't see bbq pits but wasn't looking for them either :-)
